Angkor Wat

Emerging from a colonial past, followed by a brutal period of warfare and violence is one of the great jewels of Indochina. Cambodia is the successor-state of the indomitable Khmer Empire, which during the 9th to 14th centuries ruled much of what are now Vietnam, Laos and Thailand. One of the dazzling achievements of the Khmer civilization is the fabled and stunning temples of Angkor. These astonishing monuments, which are surrounded and in some cases engulfed by the surrounding jungle, lay testament to the brilliance of the Khmer people. You simply have to see these temples to believe them; no photo lens does them justice. Apart from the vastness and variety of temple complexes at Angkor, there are also many wonderful sights to behold in Phnom Penh, from the Grand Palace to the Silver Pagoda. You need not suffer while traveling in this emerging, exotic land. There are luxurious and beguiling hotel properties, such as the Raffles Grand Hotel D’Angkor. A welcoming retreat after a day of exploring one of man’s greatest architectural achievements. Watching the sunrise, and then later set, on the temples at Angkor remains one of my most vivid, travel magic memories. I am sure it will be one of yours too!
