Anchorage

Alaska is a really huge state, mostly uninhabited except by Bears, Moose, Caribou and assorted other animals. It needs to be experienced on land as well as sea. If you love to see animals, you must do some land portion on your trip-- the sightings from sea are just too far away. Many of the ports of call offer additonal experiences of Alaska which are entirely different, but no less rewarding. Like Totem Pole carving, riding the rapids, fishing, landing on a Glacier from a helicopter, taking a narrow guage steam train over wooden trestles past 1500 foot waterfalls, a town built on stilts and piers, includings the "red light" district. Yes, lots of different experiences. That is Alaska!
